UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Sign Agreement to Boost Cooperation
The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food (MoAPaF) of Ukraine to step up cooperation in agriculture and food safety.
His Excellency Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and Her Excellency Olga Trofimtseva, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, signed the MoU at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Under the agreement, MOCCAE and MoAPaF will share best practices in climate-smart agriculture, livestock breeding, and food safety, in addition to creating a more conducive environment for public and private investments and bilateral trade in agricultural products. They will also conduct training sessions to build expert capacities in the areas covered under the MoU.
Furthermore, the agreement aims to leverage agricultural research and joint ventures in livestock breeding, fertilizer use, modern irrigation, land reclamation, and soil resources management to ensure the adoption of the highest sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
Speaking on the collaboration with MoAPaF, His Excellency Dr Al Zeyoudi said: “The MoU aligns with the UAE Food Diversity Plan that seeks to enhance food security in the country. MOCCAE devised the plan in partnership with 50 stakeholders from the government and private sectors, international organizations, and food producers, and with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).”
He added: “We are keen to build regional and global synergies to learn from successful experiences from around the world and make inroads into new markets.”
To achieve the objectives of the agreement, the two ministries will establish a joint committee to hold regular meetings, set priorities, develop action plans for targeted projects, and submit annual progress reports.
