Trend Micro innovations blocked more than 10mln threats in Qatar during 2020

Company's Annual Report reveals 119,000 cyber threats detected per minute last year

Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE: 4704), a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, today released its 2020 Annual Cybersecurity report: A Constant State of Flux. The report shares insights from last year’s threat landscape and provides strategic guidance for leaders to protect and navigate their organisations better in the new normal.

The global insights reveal that Trend Micro blocked 62.6 billion threats last year, 91% of which were email-borne. The findings also cited an average of 119,000 cyber threats detected per minute in 2020 as home workers and infrastructure came under new pressure from attacks.

Across Qatar, Trend Micro solutions detected and blocked over 4.7 million (4,712,649) email threats, prevented 4.7 million (4,731,212) malicious URL Victim attacks, and nearly 20,000 (19,843) URL hosts. In addition, over 740,000 malware attacks were identified and stopped, while more than 200 online related banking malware threats were blocked.

The report also shows that home networks in Qatar were a major draw for cybercriminals looking to pivot to corporate systems, devices, and networks. Across the country, Trend Micro’s Smart Home Network (SHN) solutions blocked nearly 400,000 inbound and outbound attacks combined, preventing 1.4 million (1,452,505) such SHN events for hackers to target or control home devices from executing malware, obtaining sensitive information, intercepting communications, or launching external attacks.

“The forced digital transformation from last year has accelerated journeys of several organizations to the cloud as well as unlocked remote workplaces for employees.” said Assad Arabi, Managing Director, Trend Micro Gulf Cluster. “And this exposes them to new risks as bad actors begin to use different ways to infiltrate into company environments. We hope that our annual security report provides insights into the threat landscape for Qatar enterprises to strengthen their cyber security posture and map their way into the new digital economy”.

In its efforts to ensure secured digital transformation journeys of organizations in Qatar, Trend Micro has been working closely with public and private sectors to create awareness and bridge the gaps. Earlier this year, the company launched its Trend Micro Vision OneTMplatform to empower security teams in adopting a new approach that goes beyond – to provide enhanced visibility, threat intelligence, with extended detection and response at every layer of their IT environments.
