The London Clinic, the UK’s leading independent private hospital and charity, located in London’s Harley Street Medical Area, is showcasing its innovations in cancer care, along with its leading group of oncology consultants, at Arab Health 2020.
The private hospital – which has high patient satisfaction scores of over 95% – is committed to building successful international relationships. Dr Nicholas Maisey, a consultant oncologist at The London Clinic, will be available alongside The London Clinic’s team at the Harley Street Medical Area Stand on the UK Pavilion (hall 2 stand H30) for speaking opportunities and interviews between the 25th – 29th January 2020.
Dr Maisey, clinical lead of Independent Oncology, a group of specialist cancer consultants in London, says: “I am delighted to be representing The London Clinic and Independent Oncology at Arab Health.
“This year will be exciting as we continue to see advances in cancer care, benefitting many people across the world by helping them fight cancer and live longer. London continues to be a global centre for cancer care, with The London Clinic a leading example of the standards of patient care and quality of services being available.”
At Arab Health 2020, The London Clinic will be showcasing that:
- It’s the only hospital research centre in the UK to take part in a landmark international clinical trial of a new radiation treatment for people with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer with a high death rate. In this new clinical trial, after the brain tumour is removed, a high, focused dose of radiation is delivered directly to the tumour cavity to kill any microscopic cancer cells left behind
- New cutting-edge blood cancer treatment CAR-T cell therapy is available for patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, where the patient’s immune cells are genetically modified to destroy their cancer cells
- Its haematology facility is the largest stem cell collection centre in Europe. Working with international charities Anthony Nolan and DKMS, stem cell and bone marrow donations are collected every year and safely stored until needed by patients in global locations
- Patients with advanced prostate cancer at The London Clinic have the opportunity to be treated with the innovative Lutetium-177 PSMA therapy, a molecular radiotherapy treatment that targets and kills cancer cells precisely, avoiding damage to healthy cells and tissue. This treatment offers new hope of extending and improving quality of life as clinical data shows Lutetium-177 PSMA therapy reduces prostate specific antigen (PSA) in up to 70% of patients
- It’s one of the few sites in the UK to offer treatment for colorectal cancer with the Carl Zeiss Intrabeam® system - a miniaturised X-ray device which is located within the on-site operating theatres at The London Clinic. Colorectal cancer is primarily treated with surgery but in some cases, in order to help reduce the chance of recurrence, intra-operative radiotherapy treatment (IORT) can be given during the operation
Nicholas da Costa, Head of International of The London Clinic, says: “Over 120,000 people from the Middle-East, China, US, UK and Europe visit The London Clinic every year to see one of over 600 leading consultants, in fields as diverse as cancer care, digestive diseases, musculoskeletal, and orthopaedics (including hips, knees, shoulders and fingers).
“The International team works to ensure that every patient receives the highest standard of support before, during and after admission into The London Clinic. We speak to every patient prior to their admission, to check what support they require. This can range from ensuring access to interpreters, that their children have accommodation and schooling, our chefs are aware of their cultural and religious needs for meals, or arranging a shopping trip for the patient’s family in nearby Oxford Street.”
