The Growing Events Management Industry in the Middle East

The Middle East is quickly becoming a hub for global events. A quick look at the activities calendar of the region reveals a growing number of business, entertainment and, leisure events being added every year. The growing number of new event management start-ups and entertainment portals being launched every month are proof that the industry is here to stay.

The much talked about signature event in Dubai is by far the Expo 2020. Approximately, one third of the world’s population is only four hours away from Dubai by air, and 66% of the world’s population can land in Dubai airport within 8 hours flying time.

UAE's proposed theme for Expo 2020 is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. Expo 2020 will provide a unique platform for the global community to come together and explore creative and pioneering solutions to the three subthemes which have been identified as key drivers of global development: Sustainability, Mobility and, Opportunity.

The country’s Expo will be a celebration of innovative partnerships for global progress. The total investment in the infrastructures related to Expo 2020 is estimated at AED25 billion. Some of these facilities are permanent and will be utilized for other purposes after Expo 2020.

Another signature event in UAE is the Dubai World Cup. The Dubai World Cup is one of the biggest events on the region’s event calendar. With USD 10 million going to the overall winner, and a staggering total prize money pool of USD 30 million, it’s no wonder that it’s known as ‘the world's richest horse race’.

Abu Dhabi is not far behind when it comes to staging events on a large canvas. The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the most glamorous weekend of the year, it remains the biggest international event in the United Arab Emirates. From super yachts, supermodels, to celebrity-studded parties, Abu Dhabi is where the centre of gravity shifts for a few days every year!

A late entrant to the entertainment scene in the region is Saudi Arabia. Pop stars like Lionel Richie, the JTTX Music Festival, Red Sea Film Festival and the WWE Super Showdown are but some of the few confirmed gigs in KSA. In a bid to change its image from a once conservative Kingdom, KSA is all set to become of the major entertainment destination in the region, giving countries like UAE a run for their money.

The influx of global artisits in the region will boost tourim and business climate in the region. The West is now looking at the Middle East as a holiday destination that is peaceful and undiscovered compared to the usual crowded holiday destinations.
