Sharjah Aquarium Carnival Welcomes Over 6,000 Visitors In 5 Days

More than 6000 people from across the UAE visited the Sharjah Aquarium Carnival “Sharks and Waves” and were captivated by a full line-up of learning and fun activities during the event’s first five days. 
 
Running through the 2nd of March, shadow show at the fourth edition of the carnival highlighted the risks posed to marine life due to improper disposal of rubbish, in an effort to educate the public about how manmade waste products adversely impacts our marine ecology.
 
The Carnival’s main attraction is a screen set up in the Aquarium’s central arena rolled down and spectators including children and adults from all nationalities, were left thrilled by the exciting special effects and musical performance. 
 
An array of other fun-filled activities including educational workshops and acrobatics shows are being hosted as part of the carnival, which aims to create a fun atmosphere but with an underlying mission to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the marine environment.
 
Part of the Sharjah Museums Authority’s social responsibility initiative ‘Because We Care’, the carnival’s previous editions were marked with astounding success measured by the by number of visitors and their positive reactions to their experience. 
 
A wide variety of shows featuring varieties of sharks, sea-themed contests and a shark dance with life-size models of different sea creatures, have had children and adults alike, enthralled. 
 
Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA), Manal Ataya confirmed that the authority’s activities and initiatives directly cater to our audience needs, especially those relating to children. 
 
“Sharjah Museums Authority is aware of the importance of educating children at a young age and therefore aims to create fun informal learning environments where children and their families can interact together. Knowing that our visitors would leave our event having had a great time but also greater awareness of Sharjah’s beautiful marine life and how they can contribute to its protection is critical to our carnival’s success,” said Ms. Ataya. 
 
The free-to-attend shows from 5pm-10pm, take place in the central arena of the Sharjah Aquarium, which has been set up to reinforce the aquatic ambience among visitors. 
 
A number of visitors impressed with the various carnival’s activities, pointed out that it carries many important messages that reach out to attendees in an entertaining and educational approach.  
 
Other educational attractions at the Carnival included the ‘Touch Pool’, which allows children closely examine different aquatic creatures by physically touching them. Animals included hermit crabs, sea snails and star fish.
