New MoU between QF Partner GU-Q and Teach for Qatar opens new avenues for collaboration in education

QF partner Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) and Teach for Qatar (TFQ) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to underscore their long-standing and increasingly diverse partnership and to further strengthen their cooperation in education and research.

The MoU was signed by the Dean of GU-Q, Dr. Ahmad Dallal, and the CEO of TFQ, Nasser Yousef Al Jaber.

Dean Dallal said the new MoU builds on GU-Q’s previous collaborative work with TFQ, which includes organizing workshops, facilitating student internships, and contributing to the education labor force through highly skilled alumni.  “At GU-Q, we believe that higher education institutions have a critical role to play in contributing to a strong and sustainable educational landscape in Qatar. This MoU expands on our commitments in that effort, and creates new opportunities to prepare and train the next generation of education professionals who can lead Qatar’s transformation towards a knowledge society.” Noting that Mr. Nasser Al Jaber is a 2010 graduate of GU-Q, with a degree in International Politics, Dean Dallal added that “We are particularly pleased to be working with a member of our alumni community who has so successfully put Georgetown values of academic excellence and service to others into practice.”

Mr. Nasser Al Jaber said the MoU would help elevate the importance of the education sector, and contribute to the Human Development Pillar of the QNV 2030. “As an important educational partner, Georgetown has helped Teach For Qatar positively impact academic learning for thousands of our students across Qatar. We look forward to building on that successful collaboration and working even more closely in the fields of teacher training and educational research.”

According to the MoU, both organizations will explore meaningful ways to promote their shared values of education, research, and service through a host of collaborative activities, including the exchange of materials, publications, and academic information. GU-Q and TFQ will also focus on the facilitation of student engagement activities and the development of short-term programs and courses. They also agree to hold regular meetings to discuss academic programs tailored to TFQ, and other cooperative activities as deemed appropriate.

Founded by Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, Teach For Qatar is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) working as part of the solution to help solve some of the challenges Qatar’s students face. It is the 32nd member of the Teach for All Network, recognized in 2013 as one of the world’s 100 strongest NGOs by the Global Journal.
