New Cyber Security Course To Ready UAE Workforce For Careers Of The Future

University of South Wales launches MSc Cyber Security at Dubai Future Academy event

The University of South Wales has launched an MSc in Cyber Security at its Dubai campus. Speaking at Dubai Future Academy yesterday, Pro Vice Chancellor for Innovation at the University of South Wales, Professor Paul Harrison, revealed details of the course, which will run from February 2020.

The Insights of the Future event, held in collaboration with Dubai Cyber Security Cluster on Wednesday evening, was aimed at aspiring cyber professionals in the UAE. As Pro Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science, Professor Harrison spoken to students about the opportunities presented of a career in cyber security.

“As the number of cyber attacks increases in the Middle East region and around the world, and with these attacks becoming increasingly sophisticated, the need for skilled experts has become a priority for most organisations,” commented Professor Harrison “Our aim is to develop our students skill sets and knowledge to enable them to protect businesses across the region against these security threats and digital incursions.”

The career path for those with a cyber security qualification offers plenty of opportunity, from implementing security policies and managing protective measures in network systems, to advising organisations on how to reduce risks and their vulnerability, and provides an interesting, challenging and rewarding work environment. Typical roles commonly include information security and risk analysts, IT security managers and network security consultants.

The Cyber Security Masters offered by the University of South Wales covers the technical and governance skills required to operate in the cyber security profession, across both public and private sectors. Specifically designed to equip students with the latest knowledge and understanding of the threats associated with the use of technology in business and how to deal with them, the programme covers network security, incident response and management, security management, strategic management and IT governance.

After the successful opening of the University of South Wales (USW) Dubai in Dubai South last year, this new KHDA-approved course perfectly complements the existing BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering degree with integrated European Aviation Safety Agency / General Civil Aviation Authority (EASA/GCAA) training, and the MSc International Logistics and Supply Chain Management degree. The new programme will be delivered in a block-mode format which will enable practicing professionals to study whilst working.

These courses provide for the future development needs of the aerospace sector and other strategically important sectors in the UAE, offering the knowledge and skills to work in many business areas across multinational enterprises. With governments and organizations investing more in the cybersecurity of defence and aerospace products and services than ever before, this latest addition gives the future workforce a clear competitive edge.
