New collaboration set to bring teamLab Borderless to Saudi Arabia
A new 10-year collaboration agreement has been unveiled between the Saudi Ministry of Culture and teamLab, the world’s preeminent immersive and interactive art collective, to develop artworks for a new digital art museum on the Red Sea coastal city of Jeddah: ‘teamLab Borderless Jeddah’, by 2023.
The ‘teamLab Borderless’ museums are some of the most important works from the international art collective. They offer an immersive experience where the viewer becomes part of the work, and the presence of the visitor itself causes changes in the art.
The collective team of artists, creatives, architects, programmers, CG animators, and more, will create ‘teamLab Borderless Jeddah’ along the same creative concept of the ‘teamLab Borderless’ museums in Tokyo and Shanghai, using the latest technology to form one borderless world. A section dedicated for children will combine science and art learning to help inspire the next generation of creatives.
Collaborations with world-leading artists such as teamLab are fundamental to the Ministry of Culture’s mission to support and develop a thriving cultural ecosystem. The planned museum will attract events and visitors from across the region, providing new perspectives and innovative experiences for all. Plans to create this opportunity in Riyadh at a later stage are also underway.
Supported by Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategic framework and Quality of Life Program, the Ministry of Culture is leading a cultural transformation, outlined in its Cultural Vision announced in 2019, to develop a modern ecosystem that nurtures creativity, unlocks the economic potential of the sector and unleashes new and inspiring forms of expression.
