Middlesex University Dubai celebrates 14 years of success
Middlesex University Dubai celebrated its continued growth and success as it commemorated its 14th anniversary in January 2019. Opened in January 2005 as the first overseas campus of the internationally renowned Middlesex University in London, the University provides innovative teaching and learning to over 3,200 students from more than 100 nationalities.
Offering a range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes across areas including Accounting and Finance, Graphic Design, Business Management, Law, Psychology, Robotics, Computer Engineering, Hospitality, Media, Film, HR, Marketing and Journalism, the University will also be launching over eight new programmes in September 2019.
In the past year the University has welcomed a record number of applications and enrolments as its international outreach expands into new markets. “Last year we welcomed students from countries including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Zimbabwe, Brazil, Russia, Mexico and Vietnam. We are proud to be a leading choice for international students who are looking to gain a quality UK degree while studying in a dynamic, rapidly developing city – known worldwide for its cultural inclusivity”, commented Dr Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Director of Middlesex University Dubai.
Providing challenging academic programmes underpinned by innovative research and professional practice, Middlesex University Dubai ensures graduates are equipped with the core skills, technical knowledge and employer contacts to stand out in a competitive landscape. “Corporate outreach is fundamental to the success of both our students and the University, which is why we seek out partnerships with organisations both within the UAE and internationally”, said Dr Fernandes “our faculty have launched initiatives which enhance students learning and contribute to the development of organisations and the wider community.”
Amongst these initiatives are the Centre of Innovation and Excellence and Institute of Entrepreneurship and Business Excellence, which bridge the gap between industry and academia, support students and corporate partners to exchange knowledge and expertise, and to provide support through education, mentorship, consultancy, and networking. Most recently, the Institute of Sustainability was set up in line with the UAE’s vision to build a sustainable environment infrastructure, by fostering the advancement of sustainable development into the University, community and global practices.
Enhancing the student experience, the University’s student accommodation ‘The Residences’ provides a home-away-from-home for both international and domestic students. Over 150 rooms spread across 20 luxurious villas and students staying at The Residences can also benefit from a gym, swimming pool and basketball/volleyball court. In addition, the University has gone through extensive refurbishments including a graphic design studio, robotics lab, and film lab, all of which provide students with access to specialised equipment and technology. Operating across four blocks of Dubai Knowledge Park, the campus has over 40 classrooms, dedicated study rooms, two library locations, and its student space ‘HUB19’; which gives students the chance to relax between classes with a gaming room, music room, student lounge, recreational room and a dance studio.
