Mid East Power Show To Host Global Tech Breakthroughs As GCC Prioritises Smart Grids And Renewables

The region's renewed power focus has opened up huge opportunities and the GCC market

Middle East Electricity, the world’s largest power industry trade platform, will host the global launch of breakthrough automated transmission and distribution (T&D) technology for its 2019 showing at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from March 5-7.

ETAP, the US-headquartered power technology giant, says it will use the annual showcase to introduce the world to “unique, multiple enterprise T&D solutions” which, it claims, can massively shave costs of commercial overheads.

Shaikh Sahid Hossain, VP & Global Director, ETAP, says the breakthrough automated solutions, which require minimal supervision, can “operate, monitor, analyse and optimise power in real-time and save huge costs for businesses.”

ETAP’s major Middle East push comes as it predicts a buoyant future for T&D in the GCC, where smart grids are being pursued to “control power loss, increase efficiency and reduce emissions.”

Recent research from APICORP says the GCC is expected to require US $34 Bn for transmission and distribution over the next five years. ETAP says next-generation solutions, such as its modelling-to-optimisation on a single-platform technology, will be needed by the region to realise its projected smart grid market growth to US $1.68 bn by 2026.

“The region’s renewed power focus has opened up huge opportunities and the GCC market is poised for huge growth with renewable energy taking precedence,” added Hossain. “Looking at the growth in demand and the shortfall of supply, the initiatives taken by governments are rapidly increasing with innovations happening and more IPPs coming into the picture.”

ETAP’s bullish regional forecast underlines a rise in electricity generation demand, increasing smart and clean energy initiatives, growth in power intensive industries, improved grid efficiency and a political will towards sector investment.

Middle East Electricity organisers, Informa Exhibitions, says the show’s selection as a global launch platform is in-line with the event’s futuristic agenda.

“In 2019, the show is focusing on breakthroughs in the generation, distribution, storage and use of power segments to meet domestic needs and international requirements,” explained Claudia Konieczna, Exhibition Director – Informa Industrial Group. “As the industry is in a seismic transformative stage and gearing up for 4th industrial revolution and urbanisation demands, innovation and technology are firmly centre stage. These sectors are being prioritised in our unparalleled three-day education programme, which is essential for all who wish to remain relevant in this new power era.”

Informa has lined up no less than 94 hours of free conferences and seminars for the Middle East Electricity 2019 programme, which will feature case-study-led sessions to keep delegates up-to-date with technology trends and projects.

Over 1,600 leading manufacturers and suppliers are committed to Middle East Electricity 2019, which is being held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler, and is hosted by the UAE Ministry of Energy.
