Innovative Solutions In Construction Industry Are Key To District Cooling Energy Efficiency
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, confirmed that utilising of innovative solutions in the construction industry is one of the key factor for energy efficiency in district cooling services. This came in conjunction with The Big 5 Exhibition, the largest and most influential building and construction show in the Middle East, being held from 25 to 28 November, 2019 at Dubai World Trade Centre.
The exhibition discusses the changing economic landscape, promoting businesses, launching of latest construction and sustainability solutions, educating industry professionals, promoting best practices in line with technological innovations, and enabling industry professionals to review products from around the world, for each construction phase.
Close relationship
Empower highlighted that district cooling has a close relationship with the construction industry. Energy efficiency of the district cooling systems depends on the innovative designs used in buildings and materials.
Empower stressed that the ‘Owner’s Guide for buildings served by District Cooling’ and the updated edition of the ‘District Cooling Guide’ for designers and building owners around the world, which were launched in cooperation with The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), provide information that contributes to the design of environmentally-friendly and energy-saving buildings that can incorporate district cooling systems
The ‘Owner’s Guide for buildings served by District Cooling’ is a useful reference for building owners and designers. It includes information on selecting the design consultant, maintenance, existing buildings, design faults, and other system constraints. This manual also includes research and case studies on performance issues.
The second updated edition of the ‘District Cooling Guide’ for designers and building owners around the world also provides guidance, and additional information on how to make improvements in cooling systems, the integration of thermal storage in the district cooling system, as well as information on operations and maintenance. These case studies also help operators to ensure systems work as planned.
Enhancing energy efficiency
“The Big 5 is a great opportunity for developers and participants to learn about the latest technologies used in designing environmentally-friendly buildings, and cooling services.” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
Bin Shafar stressed that the exhibition sheds light on providing the best sustainable solutions, and promoting healthier and more sustainable environments.
“The exhibition tackles the opportunities and the challenges facing by countries in the region who aim for a green transformation. It contributes to highlighting the importance of spreading awareness on environmentally-friendly services,” added Bin Shafar.
“District cooling systems are major green infrastructure and sustainable construction solutions that contribute to the energy efficiency of new residential and commercial buildings and increase their operational efficiency. They also play a key role in protecting the environment from carbon emissions,” noted Bin Shafar.
“The Big 5 is one of the largest construction events in the Middle East. The exhibition is expected to receive 68,753 participants and visitors, to 29 national pavilions from different countries, including China, Italy, Germany, two days, Spain, India, South Korea, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, among others,” added Bin Shafar.
Transition towards a green economy
Empower stressed that The Big 5 contributes to the acceleration of the transition towards a green economy. It offers a range of solutions that contribute to green and environmentally-friendly buildings. Visitors will also be able to review the latest products to reduce energy consumption and wastage, while improving environmental sustainability.
The exhibition helps industry professionals to explore the latest energy products and technologies from around the globe, and enables integration into building designs by highlighting the latest cooling technologies to reduce energy consumption, improve air quality, and review innovative market strategies in the Middle East.
Production capacity
Empower provides district cooling services to more than 1,090 buildings, catering to more than 100,000 customers. The company operates more than 1.43 Million Refrigeration Tons (RT), providing environmentally friendly district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Bluewaters, Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, International Media Production Zone and others.
