Health, Culture And The Arts To Fall Under Holy Month Microscope During Flow Talks - Ramadan Series

Talks at 'The Modern Majlis' will feature an all-Emirati line-up of expert speakers served alongside healthy Arabic Iftars

Flow, the homegrown healthy eating and creative hub at Jumeirah Emirates Towers Boulevard, is rolling out an expanded version of its Flow Talks – Ramadan Series every Wednesday evening throughout May.

Featuring an all-star cast of specialist Emirati experts in health, poetry, arts and culture, the Flow Talks – Ramadan Series is designed to stimulate conversation and debate in-line with Flow’s commitment to serve revitalising food that fuels both the body and mind.

Held in an intimate curated environment dubbed ‘The Modern Majlis’, the weekly Flow Talks – Ramadan Series gatherings will see experts and specialists explore the Muslim faith in wide-ranging discussions intended to inspire and engage diners of all nationalities, creeds and religious beliefs.

To complement the talks, Head Chef Chris Kinsley and Flow’s culinary team will serve up traditional Arabic cuisine infused with Flow’s modern twist in a healthy Arabic Iftar from sundown to 9pm on May 8, 15, 22 and 29.  The Iftar is priced at only AED 98 per person, including beverages, however entry to the Flow Talks is free.

Exploring a range of personal experiences, motivations, successes, culture paradigms and the inert challenges of the modern day, speakers include:

Dr. Reem Al Gurg – Kicking off the series on Wednesday 8th May, Al Gurg, a Professor of Health Policy at the College of Medicine, will be joined by representatives from Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences to discuss nutritional advice on keeping healthy during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Dr. Reem has previously held several positions that helped formulate insight on the educational and healthcare system and will share her insights on the topic.

Khalid Mezaina – Diners on Wednesday 15th May will be treated to a feast for their mind & body as Khalid Mezaina – the independent artist, designer, and illustrator – discusses his journey, motivation and showcases his illustrations. Khalid’s work ranges from prints, installations and murals, to designs for apparel, stationary, publications and textiles. Khalid has participated in projects and residencies both in the UAE and abroad. He has also been featured in regional and international art exhibitions. Some of Khalid’s influences include pop culture, music and daily findings or observations from around the city he calls home.

Jalal Luqman – On the agenda for Wednesday 22nd May, Jalal Luqman – an Emirati author and artist, known both locally and internationally – has achieved a lot since becoming the UAE’s first digital artist in the 1990s. His approach to art has gone through many different phases, using different kinds of media. He recently published his first book, The Armagondas is an epic fantasy graphic novel inspired by true events. Seamlessly moving from one creative medium to another Jalal has worked in film, writing, traditional art, digital art and sculpture and will discuss his journey, inspiration and following dreams.

Eman Al Mughairy – Eman works as an Abu Dhabi Youth Hub Project Manager in the Office of Minister of State and is passionate about cultural diplomacy. An Emirati national, Eman is a strong believer in community engagement and youth leadership development. She's an advocate for youth empowerment and part of the Youth Hub. On Wednesday 29th May, Eman will discuss the “connecting for positive change” and the ‘Year of Tolerance’.
