DEWA organises interactive activities on the World Energy Day
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) celebrated World Energy Day 2019 at its conservation stand in the 21st Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX). DEWA organised awareness-raising events on sustainability and reducing electricity and water consumption, in addition to conserving natural resources.
World Energy Day is an initiative endorsed by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, along with representatives of 54 countries, in addition to the United Nations, Arab League and African Union Commission, who consented to make it a yearly event through the ‘Dubai Declaration - Energy for All’ on 22 October 2012.
DEWA celebrated the World Energy Day during the sixth Green Week. The Green Week is an important event organised by DEWA to raise awareness on sustainability and protectthe environment and natural resources. DEWA organised a series of activities through its conservation platform in WETEX 2019 to raise awareness about climate change, and encourage more people to adopt a lifestyle with low-carbon footprint. It also organised the World Energy Day competition, where visitors created a collage of digital pictures that highlight the importance of ensuring a better future for us and for generations to come.
“The wise leadership in the UAE attaches great importance to diversifying energy sources, by increasing the share of renewable and clean energy. This supports the vision that recognises the importance of renewable energy in balancing development and the environment, to protect the right of future generations to live in a clean, healthy and safe environment. DEWA supports the sustainable development of Dubai by launching projects and initiatives that support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform the Emirate into a global hub for clean energy and green economy, and provide 75% of Dubai's total power output from clean energy by 2050, to make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“The conjunction of World Energy Day with WETEX 2019 and the fourth Dubai Solar Show is an opportunity to spread a conservation culture among many people. Thousands visit the two exhibitions every year from Dubai and abroad. The two shows are an ideal platform to introduce people to the importance of renewable energy, involving more people in sustainability, encourage them to adopt a responsible and aware life style to ensure resources sustainability. Besides activities organised under the umbrella of the Green Week, DEWA organises over the whole year many activities and initiatives to support national and international efforts to protect natural resources and enhance awareness about environment protection and sustainability,” he added.
DEWA has also organised interactive, awareness-raising activities in Mirdif City Centre.
