Al Rawi Raises Funds To Provide School Meals For Refugee Children And Their Families

In collaboration with The Big Heart Foundation

Al Rawi, Sharjah's contemporary creative hub and book-focused restaurant, announces today a fund-raising dinner for refugee children in the Middle East under the theme "Reduce Food Waste", held on February 8. In collaboration with The Big Heart Foundation, the dinner will be prepared by renowned UAE-based Chef, Sahar Parham Al Awadhi. The event will be held at Al Rawi, located at Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah, UAE.

The evening will feature a 4-course meal, prepared by Chef Sahar, followed by live music and performance by Dina Stars, a UAE-based Jordanian singer, songwriter & guitarist. The dinner will be followed by an auction to raise funds to provide school meals for refugee children in a range of different countries and terrains – from major cities to remote villages.

Al Rawi Manager, Zhora Qureshi commented: “Food preservation and sustainability is at the core of Al Rawi's mission, with tremendous efforts by the team to continuously recycle, repurpose and reduce food waste.”

She also added: “We intended for this event’s proceeds to go to refugee children and their families, to raise the necessary awareness on both the individual and the collective responsibility towards sustainable consumption, and how our efforts do contribute to a holistic ecosystem that affects not only our community, but the region at large.”

This event is held in collaboration with The Big Heart Foundation, to raise awareness about the plight of thousands of children in the region, and the significance of prioritising a sustainable approach with food. The event complements the foundation’s mission to safeguard the rights and improve the lives of vulnerable children and families. Since its establishment, the foundation has provided health, education and emergency aid services to over 1 million people in need in more than 20 countries around the world.

“Reduce Food Waste” dinner comes in line with Al Rawi's continuous efforts to support communities in the region. Since its opening, Al Rawi has championed several events and initiatives, including the funds it raised for the breast cancer awareness campaign, in partnership with Pink Caravan, and the recent auction held, to raise money for Australian Bushfires relief.

The dinner will be held at Al Rawi, on February 8, 2020, at 8:00 PM. Tickets are sold at the premise, for AED 330 per person. Limited seats.
