'AGU' partakes in webinar on managing transformation in academic libraries

It's worth mentioning that the index is a catalyst for scientific research that helps increase the volume of electronic academic publishing

The Arabian Gulf University (AGU), represented by its Library and Learning Resources Centre General Supervisor, Dr Khaled Habchi, recently participated in an online seminar (Webinar) held to discuss “Managing Transformation in Academic Libraries in the Era of E-Learning”, which was organised by the Unified Arab Index Centre at King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

During the webinar, Dr Habchi gave a lecture entitled "The Unified Academic Index of Gulf Universities", in which he presented a practical approach that reviews the reference framework of the project, its strategic background, its components and its expected role in supporting information, e-learning and scientific research.

Dr Habchi explained further that the proposed project comes within the framework of the committee of universities' library affairs' deans and officials, higher education institutions and research centres of the GCC States, and in cooperation and partnership with the Unified Arab Index Center.

He informed the attendees that the proposed project would assist in strengthening cooperation between Gulf libraries by working to unify technical systems to facilitate the exchange of information, experiences and experiments, and to also rationalise expenditures to achieve the highest utilisation rates of the available information resources.

Dr Habchi pointed out that this project will also help achieve high quality in bibliographic data for the index of the member libraries, indicating that the unified Gulf academic index with its innovative components, especially the "digital source for free access to knowledge resources" will be a pillar of e-learning with what it will provide from reliable information, diversified resources and remotely updated services. It will also help member universities achieve a better level of quality and improve its position in national, regional and international rankings.

It's worth mentioning that the index is a catalyst for scientific research that helps increase the volume of electronic academic publishing, which will inevitably result in growing the visibility and improving the impact factor by increasing the number of citations for researchers. The research recommended that universities adopt policies for free access to support scientific research and increase the volume of academic publishing, its prevalence and accessibility, as well as the economic benefits that accrue from it.
