Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, is located on the eastern Mediterranean Sea and provides many unforgettable sites and events for visitors, ranging from architectural masterpieces and antique baths to thrilling evening entertainment. In this article, we share what not to miss on a trip to Beirut.
Mohammed al-Amin Mosque
Mohammed al-Amin Mosque is located in Martyrs' Square in downtown Beirut. It was built between 2002 and 2007 by former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri who was also buried next to the mosque. According to the architect Azmi Fakhouri, the building was inspired by Ottoman architecture and imitates the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul. The Mohammed al-Amin Mosque is one of the most distinctive landmarks of the Lebanese capital Beirut. Its characteristic blue dome combined with the traditional Ottoman mosaics reminds many visitors of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The decoration of the huge interiors makes the building look like a sultan's palace from an ancient tale. The blue dome is 42 meters high and the minarets rise 72 meters.
The Roman Baths
The Roman Baths are the excavation site of an ancient thermal bath. They are located in the center of the Lebanese capital in Beirut. One of the areas that have been uncovered and can be visited is the caldarium which represented the warm room of the thermal baths. In some areas the covering of the floor is missing, so that the substructures and the columnar bearing can be viewed. A former water basin was also uncovered. The Roman baths can be visited without entrance fee. The excavation site is open all day and is a must-see for all fans of antiquity and thermal baths, as the architecture is unique and exciting to see.
Evening entertainment
If you are a fan of good food, tasty drinks and gambling, you should not miss the Casino du Liban. It is located 22 kilometers north of Beirut in Maameltein and was opened in 1959. On an area of 35,000 square kilometers, fans have many amusement options open to them. Especially since the 50 million dollars renovation and its reopening in 1996 after the Lebanese civil war, visitors can have every wish fulfilled there. In addition, international celebrities regularly perform at the casino and provide an exciting evening program. Past performers have included Julio Iglesias, Danny Thomas and Jacques Brel. The casino has already been visited by high-ranking guests, including Albert the Second, the Prince of Monaco, King Hussein of Jordan and the Iranian Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Casino du Liban's repertoire definitely rivals the best from Las Vegas: the lower floor of the casino features several rooms where American Roulette, Blackjack, Star Poker and Heads Up Hold'em can be played. Other games offered by the casino include Midi Punto Banco, Mini Punto Banco and poker variants such as Casino Stud Poker and 3 Card Crime Poker. Moreover, the Slots Palace on the next level has over 600 state-of-the-art slot machines. Mechanical Reels, Video Blackjack Slots and many more promise a lot of fun and the chance to win big. The Slots Palace is open from ten a.m. to six a.m. and does not require a special dress code, casual attire is permitted. In addition, the room can be used without a special member chip.
However, those who want to try out casinos do not have to take a long journey and fly to Beirut. Instead, thanks to online gambling halls, it is possible to enjoy gambling fun from the comfort of your home and already gain some experience and prior knowledge online before sitting down at the gaming tables in local casinos and competing against experienced fellow players. Finding the right online casino is now also very easy. Free comparison portals allow to find the best offer from the many available online providers and pick the best online casino with the most attractive bonuses, VIP offers and the largest game selection. Since the casinos have been tested beforehand, there is also no need to worry about seriousness and security if you stick to the portals. Since online casinos can now compete with local operators in terms of game offerings, bonuses and live experiences, digital arcades are the right choice for both experienced gamblers and newbies.
