33 public school teachers receive hands-on robotics training at college of the North Atlantic - Qatar
College of the North Atlantic – Qatar in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education recently distributed completion certificates to 33 public school teachers that were provided training in robotics. The hands-on 30 hour training course consisted of 10 classes, in which teachers applied mathematical and programming concepts to design and build programmable robots.
The College has been offering these free training sessions since 2011. They are provided in English and Arabic during evening time. The Robotics training and its resultant delivery in the schools is vital in developing students’ interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Since the start of the program, more than a thousand teachers were able to bring applied STEM education into their classrooms in a fun and interactive way. Furthermore, such education does not only support students’ advancement with their STEM skills, it also develops other 21st century transferable skills such as teamwork, communication and innovation.
Commenting on the program, Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of CNA-Q said: “At CNA-Q we support technological evolution, and we always work on acquiring the most advanced equipment that will prepare students for the competitive workforce of tomorrow. We thank the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for their trust in the College. Robotics turned out to be the perfect pedagogical tool teachers have been looking for to engage students and build the leaders of tomorrow”.
Dr. Stuart Jauncey, Associate Dean for the School of Business Management and Information Technology at CNA-Q said: “It is obvious that robotics and AI are playing a major role in our world today. Working on a robot stimulates students to build their strategic problem-solving and analytical reasoning. The training we are offering teachers today will provide our young citizens with a solid foundation to build the future of Qatar”.
The training for teachers that CNA-Q has been providing for many years, ensures that the education system in Qatar is both current and capable of supporting the future needs of our progressive and innovative society.
