World Food Programme Awards HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein
The World Food Programme recently awarded UN Messenger of Peace and Chairperson of International Humanitarian City Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the Humanitarian Leadership Award at the 4th Global Humanitarian Aviation Conference at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center at the Dead Sea in Jordan.
The conference was held with an aim to discuss the challenges being faced by the aviation industry and Global strategies for humanitarian aviation around the world. Numerous local & global organizations from aeronautics and aviation companies participated in this conference.
The Humanitarian Leadership Award was presented to HRH Princess Haya for Her readiness and ongoing contribution and dedication to humanitarian relief operations around the world. Accepting the award on HRH Princess Haya’s behalf was HE Shaima Al Zarooni, the Chief Executive Officer of the International Humanitarian City (IHC). Her Excellency attended the opening ceremony and presented the acceptance speech on behalf of HRH Princess Haya. Furthermore, HE Al Zarooni received an award presented to the IHC, acknowledging its exceptional contribution and accomplishments towards humanitarian crises worldwide.
“I am very honored to receive this award from the UN Humanitarian Air Service,” stated HRH Princess Haya. “There are few aspects of emergency response as critical as air services and I hope that I and the International Humanitarian City in Dubai have helped you in caring out your valuable work. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is so proud of the IHC and its growing role in the aid community. We have tried to offer support not only in logistics, but for medical evacuations in emergencies crises and Dubai has often been a safe haven for evacuated UN and NGO staff.”
The three day conference was held in coordination with the International Civil Aviation Organization, General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE, Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission and Jordan Aviation aiming to raise awareness of the services provided by WFP through its aviation arm; the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS).
