Tashkeel Launches New Book ‘Reference Point: A History Of Tashkeel And UAE Art’ To Mark 10-Year Anniversary
Tashkeel, the Dubai-based contemporary art and design organisation, has launched a new book that documents its growth since 2008 and that of the UAE arts scene.
Reference Point: A History of Tashkeel and UAE Art includes a Q&A with Lateefa bint Maktoum, Founder and Director of Tashkeel, and contributions from notable members of the art community including Anabelle de Gersigny, Beth Derderian, Kevin Jones, Mark Pilkington, Melissa Gronlund, Mishaal Al Gergawi and Riem Ibrahim.
The 228-page book, which has been edited by Melissa Gronlund– a chief arts correspondent for The National – begins with a foreword by Lateefa bint Maktoum and features essays and photos that chronicle the journey of Tashkeel and practitioners who have been part of its development from 2008 until now. It also delves into the transformation of the UAE art scene with the expansion of entities such as Sharjah Art Foundation and Warehouse421, growth of the gallery, auction house and art publishing sectors, tertiary education provision and the establishment of areas including Al Quoz and Dubai Design District (d3).
The book is available at Tashkeel (Nad Al Sheba) and on tashkeel.org for AED 250 including VAT.
