Sharjah Government Entities Unveil Smart Technology Projects At GITEX Technology Week
A number of Sharjah’s government departments and entities will unveil a bundle of innovative online and digital services and applications on the second day of the 38th GITEX Technology Week (GITEX 2018).
This participation is a translation of Sharjah’s digital transformation goals, highlighting Sharjah Government’s strategy that aimes at catalysing innovation, promoting efforts to reach customers anywhere and facilitating their transactions and business.
Al Leem: SEWA is a leader of digital transformation in Sharjah
HE Dr. Rashid Al Leem, Chairman of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), said: “SEWA’s participation in GITEX 2018 will feature digital transformation and sustainability initiatives, including the smart meters installed across Sharjah. These meters help save time and effort as they manage and deliver data directly and securely, providing more accurate consumption rates as well as data relating to malfunctions and extra loads.
“We will also be showcasing our cutting-edge Geographic Information System, which will be integrated with SEWA’s three main services and will provide geo-spatial data on areas registered in the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey in Sharjah.”
Al Leem added: “GITEX visitors will be introduced to the new version of our smart application, offering features like push notifications and services offered through our website; e.g. account management, bill history for major companies, ministries and government entities. We will also present our internal meter inspection application, which facilitates reading meters and direct data updates through 4G networks.
“As a leader of digital transformation in Sharjah, SEWA continues its march, even after launching the first Online Payment portal in Sharjah, followed by our Smart Payment application. Those are some of our many digitisation initiatives that also include information and data exchange with various Sharjah-based entities towards digitising operations and procedures to save customers time and effort.
“We have established an electronic system that links SEWA with the Social Services Department, the Department of Statistics and Community Development, the Central Finance Department, the Real Estate Registration Department, a number of banks, ATMs and payment platforms, as well as with the Emirates Post (31 payment service providers).”
Al Midfa: The Importance of Digitising Tourism Services
HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), said: “Our participation in GITEX 2018 is part of our strong belief in the importance of digitising tourism services, which would in turn bolster our visitor experiences. We will be launching a bundle of smart services, in line with the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021, which is founded on optimum utilisation of modern technology, digital experiences and innovative projects towards elevating Sharjah’s tourism sector.”
