Meraas Announces Return Of Popular Urban Pixels Photography Competition
Meraas, a leading Dubai-based holding company dedicated to making Dubai and the UAE better for people to live, work and play in, in partnership with Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, is calling on trigger-happy photographers spanning all levels of ability to participate in the fourth edition of its acclaimed Urban Pixels photography competition.
Urban Pixels also falls under Dubai Art Season, Dubai Culture’s flagship umbrella arts event, which runs throughout March and April each year, and is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. Dubai Art Seasons holds pride of place in the city’s busy cultural calendar, featuring an array of arts events, with the aim of empowering the culture and arts sector to bring happiness to the Emirate’s society. The competition is also aligned with the Authority’s vision of positioning Dubai as a global, creative and sustainable city for culture, heritage, arts and literature.
Set to run from 19 April to 10 May, and open to all UAE residents and visitors, the contest invites submissions that reflect the vibrancy of everyday urban life in Dubai, snapped at any of the seven Meraas destinations – City Walk, Boxpark, The Outlet Village, Al Seef, La Mer, Kite Beach or The Beach. In line with Meraas’ commitment to providing exceptional experiences whilst placing Dubai on the global map, this year’s edition continues to celebrate stories from all walks of life and encourages the art of discovery through creativity.
The competition challenges amateur shutterbugs to capture their favourite moments through candid photography — including commemorating the ‘Year of Zayed’ and experiencing the rich heritage of the UAE at any of Meraas’ destinations, whether spending a casual day out at La Mer or The Beach, or finally finding that perfect outfit at City Walk or The Outlet Village. Images must be shared using the hashtag #urbanpixelsdxb, in addition to hashtagging the destination. The photographers are also free to capture slice-of-life images of anything that takes their fancy, from a scrumptious meal to the beauty of nature.
This year’s competition includes the following themes, in which entries will be awarded:
- Year of Zayed
- Street food and dining
- Happiness
