Malaysian Ministry Of Science, Technology And Innovation Hosts Technology Summit In Dubai
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), a government ministry leading sustainable technological development in Malaysia, joined forces with the Malaysia Innovation Foundation (YIM), the Malaysian agency focused on promoting and cultivating local innovations,to host the long-awaited Malaysia International Technology Summit (MITS) 2021. The summit gathered international leaders from their respective fields to discuss the application and cultivation of science, engineering, technology and innovation in achieving lifestyle sustainability as well as efforts to attract foreign investment to Malaysia.
The summit offered a great platform for target groups such as; innovators, scientists, engineers, technologists and scholars, from various disciplines in Malaysia and abroad, to exchange views on the latest developments in the Innovation Ecosystem, through Science and Technology to meet challenges at an international level in various aspects including:
- The latest technology and innovations from Malaysia
- Trade and business opportunities
- Creation of a tech-centric community
- Relationships with like-minded communities
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dato’ Sri Dr Adham Baba said: “Expo 2020 and MITS 2021 are opportunity platforms for Malaysia to showcase its innovations to the world and find new ways of collaborating, not only to benefit Malaysia but all nations. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing we can create a sustainable world which not only looks after humanity, but also nature.”
The event was opened with a special address by the Ambassador of Malaysia to the UAE, His Excellency Mohd TaridSufian, on behalf of YB Dato’ Sri Dr.Adham Baba, Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation. Malaysia also announced the launch of the “Malaysia Pavilion Virtual platform.” Through this platform, people can experience the Malaysia Pavilion virtually and live stream events from the pavilion: www.malaysiaexpo2020.com
His Excellency Mohd TaridSufian, said: “On behalf of the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), it is my honour to officially launch the Malaysia International Technology Summit (MITS) 2021 and warmly welcome remarkable innovators,engineers, technologists and scholars from all across the globe to our flagship event. I would like to thank Prof. Muhammad Yunus from Grameen Bank Bangladesh and all other prominent speakers for being part of this summit.”
Nobel Peace Laureate, Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank and Yunus Centre presented a knowledge sharing session entitled “Ideas And Solutions To Solve World’s Most Pressing Challenges.” This was followed by two panel discussions with industry experts from India and the Philippines joining the conversations themed around minimising the negative impact of technology on the planet and how social innovation can be a pillar in the global digital economy.
Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre Chief Executive Officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor, added: “On behalf of the Malaysia Pavilion, themed ‘Energising Sustainability’, and displaying sub themes; Energising Today, Energising Tomorrow, Energising Business and Energising Harmony, which truly captures the nation’s commitment to sustainable development balancing socio-economic progress and environmental concerns, I would also like to take this opportunity at MITS to announce the launching of Malaysia Pavilion’s e-platform, a virtual version of the physical Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. The e-platform will provide an added facility to achieve our objectives of enabling the general public to visit our pavilion virtually as well as to drive traffic and enhance connectivity for our trade and business programmes.”
MITS 2021 marked the signing of some of the first MOUs, with MOU exchange ceremonies between Malaysia Innovation Foundation (YIM) and Gujarat Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN) to co-operate in exploring grassroots innovations and the second MOU between Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) ASEAN Centre of Entrepreneurship (ACE) and District 2020 (Scale2Dubai) to scale and unlock the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Asian Markets.
The day was marked with knowledge sharing sessions from industry experts presenting six masterclasses featuring discussions around key global topics such as; “Ideas and Solutions about Involvement of the Malaysian Government in the Innovation and Commercialisation Landscape”, “Technology Commercialisation Accelerator: R&D Product Creation and Commercialisation with New Emerging Technology”, “World-class Professional Organisation for Technologists and Technicians: Elevate, Visibility & Recognition”, “The Impact of STIE-Oriented Global Competitiveness Strategies and Transmission Mechanisms on Economic Growth”, Southeast Asia: An Emerging Digital Powerhouse”, and “Sustainable Development: Role of Science, Technology and Innovation”.
The one-day summit, which was held at The Address Dubai Marina, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on October 5th 2021, is one of the key events, in conjunction with Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, set to act as a catalyst to jumpstart Malaysia’s pandemic-hit economy.
