Dubai, 13 February 2019: KPMG Lower Gulf has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi to become an Official Supplier for the event in 2019. In addition, KPMG Lower Gulf is also an Official Sponsor of the Global Youth Leadership Summit (GYLS), which will run in conjunction with the Games.
KPMG Lower Gulf secured this MoU with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the World Games 2019 after months of rigorous planning and fundraising efforts. The arrangement reinforces the firm’s growing commitment to support leading international and local events in the Lower Gulf and empowering communities.
The GLYS brings together youth leaders from across the world to learn, share best practices and develop plans to implement the inclusive vision of the Special Olympics movement in their home communities around the world. Youth leaders will convene in Abu Dhabi this year to represent the global Special Olympics movement and launch the next chapter after its 50-year anniversary in 2018. The games will take place from 14 to 21 March, while the GYLS is scheduled to take place from 14 to 18 March.
Nader Haffar, CEO of KPMG Lower Gulf, said: “Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 is the world’s largest sports and humanitarian event of the year and a global movement, which encourages and enables people of immense determination to achieve their goals. It aligns directly with KPMG’s core principles of inclusion, diversity, passion and purpose. We are honored to be associated with such a momentous and meaningful event, and for the opportunity to contribute to making it a life-changing experience for participants and all other stakeholders.”
According to the arrangement, approximately 200 volunteers from KPMG Lower Gulf will work with the Special Olympics team over four days between March 15 and 18, providing on-ground support to athletes during the Games. Under the agreement, KPMG Lower Gulf is also providing professional services to the World Games’ LOC, providing risk consulting and management consulting services in-kind.
Peter Wheeler, CEO at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, said: “We are incredibly grateful to have KPMG Lower Gulf on board. The Global Youth Leadership Summit will be a milestone event, which provides young people from across the world with the skills and resources to help build a more inclusive society. KPMG Lower Gulf’s support of the GYLS along with its consulting services is invaluable in ensuring not only the success of the Games but also in ensuring a legacy is left for People of Determination long after the Closing Ceremony of the Games.”
