Global Science Companies Seek Talented Graduates at Dubai Science Park
Dubai Science Park (DSP), the holistic science-focused business community, held its fifth annual Career Fair for university students and industry-led professionals at its Laboratory Complex.
The one-day event drew the participation of leading businesses from the life-science, energy and environment sectors, including BASF, a chemical company, Firmenich and Eurofragrance, both fragrance and flavour majors, as well as Pharmax, a pharmaceutical company, Olympus, manufacturers of medical systems, Alliance Global, a biomedical company and Dubaiomics, a biotechnology firm.
The Career Fair provided an opportunity for more than 250 science students from leading UAE universities to meet with career advisors and marketing managers and identify employment opportunities with Dubai Science Park’s business partners. CV workshops, psychometric tests and other sessions offering career advice were available for students.
Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Executive Director of Dubai Science Park, said: “The science sector is a strategically important industry that supports the diversification of Dubai’s economy in line with the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030. The high turnout of students and business partners at the fifth Career Fair was therefore highly encouraging and indicated a growing interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related careers. As a leading science community, it is our mandate to connect these graduates with potential employers and offer them the platform to engage with industry-specific professionals.”
Participating universities included the University of Sharjah, American University of Sharjah, Amity University Dubai, BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, Heriot-Watt University, Gulf Medical University, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, The British University in Dubai, and the University of Kentucky.
Eiman Shafiq, a Student of Forensic Science, Amity University, said: “I will be graduating this year and the DSP Career Fair offers great exposure to engage with other job-seekers. Attending the fair for the first-time following recommendations by several people – I was pleasantly surprised to see how valuable the event is for both graduates and established professionals. The workshops were particularly helpful in building confidence, developing job applications and preparing for potential interviews.”
