Dubai Police And Meydan Group Sign MoU To Provide Horses For Equestrian Competition At World Games Abu Dhabi

Dubai Police and Meydan Group have signed a strategic agreement with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 to provide 170 horses for the equestrian competitions.

As part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Dubai Police and the Meydan Group will supply horses along will all facilities, equipment, medical teams and tools needed.

The horses will be stabled at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi for the duration of the Special Olympics World Games. Dubai Police and the Meydan Group will handle all transport arrangements for the animals.

The loan of 170 horses means the athletes taking part in the equestrian competition, an essential part of the World Games, will have the opportunity to show their skills on horseback while the animals themselves will receive the best care and attention.

The MoU was signed at the LOC headquarters in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, October 18, in an official ceremony attended by Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Managing Director at Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, Mr. Malih Lahij Al Basti, Vice chairman of Meydan City corporation, Brigadier Exp. Mohammed Essa Al Aadhab, Director Dubai Mounted Police Dubai Police General H.Q.

“Dubai Police General Command, under the direct instructions of H.E. General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, will provide all the needs of the Local Organizing Committee for the equestrian competitions at the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi.”

“Dubai Police will provide all of the required equipment training, horses, technical and medical teams as well as referees trained in the management of equestrian events.”

Equestrian competitions were introduced to the Special Olympics in 1987, with the first events held at the 1987 World Summer Games in Indiana, USA, when 38 athletes competed.

At the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, riders will participate in a variety of events, including dressage, gymkhana, and showmanship. Unified equestrian teams will also compete in team relay and drill events.
