Honeywell Focuses On The Future Of Energy Transition At ADIPEC 2021
Honeywell (Nasdaq: HON) will showcase its cutting-edge solutions designed to advance the energy transition and drive energy efficiency and optimization at Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2021.
Honeywell has been a pioneer of digital transformation and decarbonisation within the energy sector for many years, and at this year’s ADIPEC the company will show the role technology can play in supporting energy transition initiatives across the Middle East.
Honeywell has a long legacy of sustainability-related innovation including Solstice®, a new generation of low-global-warming-potential hydro fluoro olefin (HFO) refrigerants, aerosols, solvents and blowing agents that can reduce the greenhouse gas emissions impact of current offerings on the market by more than 99 percent.
Honeywell also recently announced its new UpCycle Process Technology – a revolutionary process that expands the types of plastics that can be recycled. The technology can potentially increase the amount of global plastic waste that can be recycled to 90% when used in conjunction with other chemical and mechanical recycling processes.
The UpCycle Process Technology can produce feedstock used to make recycled plastics with a lower carbon footprint, resulting in a 57% reduction of CO2-equivalent (CO2e) emissions compared with the production of the same amount of virgin plastic from fossil feeds.
“Honeywell has been a trusted leader in delivering cutting-edge technologies in refining, process controls and chemicals for more than 100 years, and is continuing to play a leading role in shaping the future of sustainability across the energy sector today. A major focus for this year’s ADIPEC is the new market dynamics in a changing energy world. We look forward to demonstrating our latest technologies under this theme at the show, and meeting with our key partners, stakeholders and industry peers to share insights on how innovation is enabling the transition of the Middle East’s energy sector,” said HeshamTashkandi, vice president and general manager at Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies in the Middle East.
Visitors to the Honeywell stand at ADIPEC will learn about how Honeywell’s predictive maintenance and intelligent monitoring systems can be used to improve operational efficiency as part of sustainability initiatives.
In addition, attendees can find out more about Honeywell’s Ecofining™ technology, a process that converts non-edible natural oils, animal fats and other waste feedstocks to Honeywell Green Diesel™, which is chemically identical to petroleum-based diesel, as well as the company’s latest developments in hydrogen solutions and energy management systems to support the transition to alternative energy sources.
These innovative technologies have a critical role to play in the Middle East, where a number of countries have set firm renewable energy and carbon emission reduction targets. These goals include the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to become carbon neutral by 2060, and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050,which aims to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix from 25% to 50% by 2050 and reduce the carbon footprint of power generation by 70%. The UAE has also set a Net Zero target by 2050, while Bahrain followed with a Net Zero pledge for 2060. Additionally, Qatar recently launched its National Environment and Climate Change Strategy, which includes a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, to safeguard the well-being of Qatar’s population and ensure the long-term resilience of the economy.
In April 2021, Honeywell committed to become carbon neutral in its operations and facilities by 2035 through a combination of further investment in energy savings projects, conversion to renewable energy sources, completion of capital improvement projects at its sites and in its fleet of company vehicles, and utilization of credible carbon credits.
