Chevrolet’s Got Rhythm
For over 100 years, Chevrolet has been an icon of popular culture. We’re used to seeing Tahoes and Suburbans on the silver screen but what about the music? Chevy has long been an inspiration with artists, and legendary with singers such as Elton John and Taylor Swift, who have drawn inspiration from Chevrolet, working the brand into their lyrics.
So, to celebrate World Music Day, we’ve pulled together a list of the best Chevy tunes to play while you’re working from home, baking banana bread or burning off excess energy with a dance party to transport you, without even leaving the house:
1971 – 2002
- American Pie by Don McLean
“So bye-bye, Miss American Pie, drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry.”This 1971 tune by Don McLean is an instant classic and bound to get stuck in your head! Whether you’re listening to the original or the Madonna cover, we know you’ll join in at the chorus.
- Crocodile Rock by Elton John
Released in November of 1972, the song is a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, encapsulating the carefree independence of theera. Our favorite line has to be: “an old gold Chevy and a place of my own.” - Little Red Corvette by Prince
A list of Chevy songs would not be complete without this smash hit from Prince in 1983.“Little red Corvette, baby you’re much too fast”. Still appropriate today with Chevy’s all-new 2020 Corvette Stingray, which can reach 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds.
- The One I Loved Back Then by George Jones
George Jones was frequently referred to as the greatest living country singer. He sang this 1985old blues and rock and roll song, also called The Corvette Song. - 99 In the Shade by Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi, an American rock band, released this song in 1988, embodying summer vibes with its feel-good lyrics and upbeat energy: “I got the radio blasting in my old man’s Chevrolet.”
2003 –2020
- Mud On The Tires by Brad Paisley
This song perfectly describes how many Chevrolet enthusiasts see the automotive brand with its catchy chorus that goes,”I’ve got some big news, I’m holdin’ the keys to a brand-new Chevrolet…” What’s not to love about that?
- CamarobyKings of Leon
The Chevrolet Camaro has been one of the most desirable cars since it was first introduced to the world in 1966, and Kings of Leon sum it up in the very first verse:, “She looks so cool in her new Camaro.” - Tim McGraw by Taylor Swift
This 2006 song goes back to old-school-Taylor as first debut single, quickly becoming a top 10 sensation in the country charts.
Red Camaro by Rascal Flatts
This 2010 song pays tribute to a red-colored Chevrolet and was released as part of the band’s seventh studio album called “Nothing like this.” The song is a little bit country and fun to sing along to.
